What’s the difference between Matcha and Green Tea?Green tea is steeped, meaning it’s soaked, then the leaves are discarded once the tea has infused the water. The quality of your average green tea pales in comparison to ceremonial grade matcha, and because you’re removing the leaves before drinking, the nutritional value is significantly depleted. Ceremonial grade matcha, on the other hand, is made from shade grown tencha tea leaves. The youngest leaves are picked — full of chlorophyll, caffeine, antioxidants, and lots of green goodness – and granite stone-ground to a fine powder. In turn, you getting all the nutrients as opposed to only some.

What is the difference between Matcha and Coffee?Well besides the fact that one is a bean and the other a leaf, there are many differences between these two. Matcha has a better caffeine “high” and by “better” I mean that coffee’s caffeine high wreaks more havoc on the body. It starts off great but ends in a crash. Coffee causes spikes in adrenaline, glucose, and insulin levels, which in turn creates jitteriness and nervousness. Coffee has a higher caffeine content but the energy only lasts 1-3 hours whereas matcha has less caffeine and the energy lasts 4-6 hours. Matcha’s pH levels are balanced which means it's great for digestion, unlike coffee. If that isn’t enough reason to drink matcha, how about the fact that it’s packed with antioxidants also something that coffee lacks. Matcha is even better for your teeth, it prevents the bacteria that causes plaque from forming. In fact, dentists actually recommend a cup of matcha daily! Really a no brainer in comparison to coffee’s effects on your oral hygiene. Also, matcha is amazing for your skin, something that here again, coffee is not. Plus matcha tastes GREAT!

What does 'ceremonial grade’ mean?Matcha comes in two different categories, culinary and ceremonial. Culinary, as you probably guessed, is primarily for cooking/baking, where the quality of the matcha powder isn’t quite as essential. With ceremonial grade, our matcha is the highest quality standard. In a typical Japanese tea ceremony, tea masters require the highest quality matcha to maintain the integrity of the ritual — taste, color, nutritional benefits, and all. Our ceremonial grade matcha is starts with the youngest leaves from there the stems and veins removed to create a super-concentrated green powder and, of course, it's organic.
